The inauguration of the exhibition “100 Years at the Service of Art and International Cooperation» organized by the Permanent Delegation of Russia to UNESCO together with the Alexander Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts will be held on September, 3, at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.
The forthcoming exposition is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Alexander Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, the date that is an official celebration anniversary of the Organization in accordance with the decision of the 36th session of UNESCO General Conference.
Director of the Pushkin Museum Ms I.Antonova, high representatives of UNESCO Secretariat, Russian, French and other foreign official and cultural workers will be among the guests at the inauguration. This anniversary will assemble at UNESCO Museum’s numerous French colleagues and partners among museums curators and explorers of unique collections.
The exhibition is a continuation of the anniversary program of the Pushkin museum which celebrated its 100 anniversary at the end of this spring. It contains art and archival photographs reflecting the history of Museum’s foundation and evaluation, its collection and various activities.
The Pushkin Museum is one of the biggest and significant Russian museums of European and world art. Besides, the Museum itself is an architectural monument situated in the center of Moscow.
At the moment there are four types of exposition in the Museum: sculptural and architectural exposition of moulds – sculpture of Western Asia, antiquity, the Middle Ages, monuments of Italian and the Northern Renaissance; section dedicated to the art and culture of ancient civilizations in the originals – as well as the materials from the excavations carried out by the Museum; picture gallery of VIII-XX centuries which represents the works of ancient West-European masters including Byzantine icons and ancient mosaic as well as the exposition of the Section of personal collections which demonstrates art collections as cultural phenomenon maintaining its integrity and paying attention of the personality of its collector.
The collection of the Pushkin Museum contains over 670 thousands works of art and sculpture, graphic works, works of applied art, monuments of archaeology and numismatics, art photographs.
In 1991 the Pushkin Museum was included to the State code of the most valuable sites of cultural heritage of the peoples of the Russian Federation.
The exhibition will be open to public from 3 to 7 September 2012 at the Hall Pas Perdus. Opening time is 6 p.m.
